POSITION: Security Support Specialist
LOCATION: Ritenour High School
QUALIFICATIONS: Security experience and eligibility for St. Louis County Security Licensure. 3-5 years working with high school school-aged students. Bilingual - English/Spanish Speaking preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Security Support Specialist - Middle School
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUMMARY: Performs varied safety and security tasks, including controlling traffic and public access to the various campus/administrative sites, and surveying campus/buildings for unsafe or hazardous conditions.
EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:
- Performs security duties, including maintaining visible security stations in an alert manner; seeking identification, when necessary, of visitors as well as school and/or District staff, in matters of safety and security.
- Conducts periodic inspection of buildings and grounds to ensure they are in safe and secure condition.
- Greets all persons coming on assigned campus, ascertains their identity and legitimate business.
- Assists the building principal or his/her designee as requested in matters of safety and security, with primary responsibility outside of buildings.
- As a duly authorized security officer, enforces school rules and local laws while on District campus sites; works closely with local police in matters of crime and delinquency.
- Provides traffic control, enforcing traffic and parking rules on the school campus sites.
- Monitors school bus arrivals and departures, as well as student activities in hallways and cafeterias.
- Prepares reports on all incidents/accidents, as required.
- Performs all security and related duties in a conscientious and safe manner.
- Takes reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Demonstrates a respectful, cooperative and caring manner with students and adults in the school community.
- Offers support in crisis situations with identified students (CPI Trained).
- Unlocks and opens building doors for special events and monitor school special functions, as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Regular attendance is required to provide support to students and staff.
- Requires travel to work sites within a school campus.
- Prepares and maintains written reports.
- Communicates concerns in writing with others.
- Discusses student circumstances with teachers, administrators, and parents.
- Communicates with employees and parents via telephone.
Physical Demands
-Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
-Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
-Exerts greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly
-Regular mobility throughout the school building and campus including classrooms, hallways, large spaces, stairwells, and outdoor areas
- Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and a field of vision that can be seen up and down or right to left while fixed on point, is required.
- May be required to physically apprehend or restrain a person
- Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with exposure to noise sufficient to make it necessary to shout at times.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Vocational Preparation: (Experience)
- Experience working with students at the high school level preferred
- Basic knowledge of arithmetic, spelling, English, and grammar.
- Accuracy in checking, posting information and writing reports, requiring a basic skills knowledge.
Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)
- Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.
License(s)/Certification(s) Required: St. Louis County Security Officer’s License (requires successful completion of training program). Mo. Driver’s License.
