POSITION: Teachers Aid - Focused on Tutoring Mathematics (District – Wide)

                                      

QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree or 60 College Credits

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE: Teacher Assistant – Focused on Math Tutoring

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Teacher Assistant helps students achieve instructional objectives by working with individual students or small groups so that they may attain grade level proficiency.

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Secondary Education      

 

EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:

 

  • Reviewing classroom or curricula topics and assignments
  • Assisting students in small groups with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks
  • Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom
  • Tutoring skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions
  • Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments
  • Developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides
  • Conducting practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation
  • Providing students positive and constructive feedback
  • Works closely with classroom teachers and instructional coaches to assist students with academic progress
  • Maintains records of tutoring session including specific student needs and progress
  • Offering feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (*)

 

(*)  When a specific assignment has additional or different ESSENTIAL FUNCTION requirements, the differences will be discussed at the time of assignment.

 

  • Small group management requires daily attendance to meet students’ needs.
  • Operates specialized technologies such as Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.
  • Reviews published educational materials for selection purposes; observes and evaluates student performance; checks student’s work, corrects papers, supervises testing; assesses the accomplishments of students and provides progress reports.

 

 

Physical Demands (Strength)

 

                -Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or

                -Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or

                -Exerts 10 to 20 pounds constantly.

               

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

 

                Vocational Preparation: (Experience)

                Experience working in some capacity with children; preferably in a school setting.           

 

                Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)

                Advanced Math Course work at Ritenour High School              

 

 

TERM of EMPLOYMENT:

 

The schedule will be based on program needs.  Employment terms are specified by the Board of Education. 

This position is funded through the Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, which may impact employment beyond the 2023-24 school year.
