POSITION:  Trades Maintenance Person – District Wide

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Complete formal apprentice and journeyman training in trade area preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required. Requires the use of common sense understanding of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; handles problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations; the use of shop math level mathematics; and reading and writing commonly associated with a High School Diploma.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

JOB TITLE: Trades Maintenance Person

 

An employee in this classification assumes leadership role in their area of training.  They perform skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machinery, building, and equipment.  Work involves proficiency in several trades and the employee exercises technical independence in determining work methods and procedures.  Review of work is received from technical and administrative superiors through inspections and discussions.                         

 

REPORTS TOMaintenance Supervisor                                 

 

EXAMPLE(S) of WORK PERFORMED:

 

  • Works as an electrician in repairing electrical malfunctions of a minor nature and installing new equipment.
  • Works as a plumber in assembling, installing and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and sewer systems; and in opening clogged drains.
  • Works as a carpenter in the alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings floors, roofs, stairways partitions, doors windows, screens, scaffolding forms, wood fixtures, and furniture.
  • May perform minor repairs to air conditioning systems and see to general maintenance servicing of air conditioning systems.
  • Operates hand and power tools such as saws, planers, joiners, shapers, wood lathes, drill press, sanding machines, routers, and electric drills.
  • Maintains tools and machinery in good condition. Uses all tools carefully and as instructed.   
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (*)

  • Requires regular attendance to provide maintenance support to the district.
  • Requires independent travel to work sites within the district (Mobility).
  • Read and interpret standard maintenance drawings and diagrams (Reading Requirement).
  • Read instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment (Reading Requirement).
  • Performs repairs to equipment, fixtures, and buildings (Dexterity).
  • Records written reports of maintenance activities (Writing Requirement).
  • Visually troubleshoot, repairs and/or replaces structural and equipment components (Sight Requirement).

 

                Physical Demands (Strength)

 

                -Exerts 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or

                -Exerts 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or

                -Exerts 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

 

                Vocational Preparation: (Experience)

 

                Complete formal apprentice and journeyman training in trade area.

 

                Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)

 

                Requires the use of common sense understanding of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form;

                   handle problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations; the use of  shop math level                                     mathematics; and reading, writing and conversing at a level commonly associated with a High School Diploma.

 

WORK ASSIGNMENTS AND EVALUATION:

Maintenance responsibilities are assigned upon employment.  Work duties may be assigned verbally and/or in writing.  Maintenance work involves ongoing contact with Supervisor.  Employee in this position is evaluated annually.
