JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Academic Math Tutor – RHS Student
POSITION SUMMARY: The Academic Tutor supports student learning by providing instruction of basic academic skills to small groups of students who have demonstrated challenges in specific academic content areas. The Academic Tutor is responsible for providing students with assistance to help them learn new concepts and complete assignments. Their duties include studying lesson plans and reviewing curriculum resources to prepare for a lesson, assigning additional projects and answering a student’s questions about a topic.
REPORTS TO: Principal
EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:
- Reviewing classroom or curriculum topics and assignments
- Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks
- Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom
- Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions
- Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics
- Developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides
- Conducting practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation
- Providing students positive and constructive feedback
- Offering feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (*)

- Small group management requires daily attendance to meet students’ needs.
- Operates specialized technologies such as Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.
- Reviews published educational materials for selection purposes; observes and evaluates student performance; checks student’s work, corrects papers, supervises testing; assesses the accomplishments of students and provides progress reports.
Physical Demands (Strength)
-Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
-Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
-Exerts 10 to 20 pounds constantly.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Vocational Preparation: (Experience)
Experience working in some capacity with children; preferably in a school setting.
Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)
Advanced Math Course work at Ritenour High School
