JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:  Instrumental Music Teacher-Hoech Middle School

 

Position Summary: Provides instruction in the area of Instrumental Music.  Works to develop in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture. Helps students develop individual and group skills in instrumental technique and music reading.

  • Uses music of high quality in a variety of types and styles
  • Develops students’ knowledge and skills in listening and reading music
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals and musical performances
  • Builds and maintains a program that attracts students
  • Plans, rehearses and directs students in musical performances for school and community; applies knowledge of District procedures and limitations set on performances
  • Collaborates with other District music instructors to ensure continuity of instructional delivery and programming
  • Ensures that instruments and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored and that inventory records are accurate and current.
  • Demonstrates appropriate long and short-term preparation for classroom instruction.
  • Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as facilitators of student learning.
  • Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in-group settings.
  • Assess student progress, provides students and parents with specific feedback, and uses the results to adjust instruction as needed.
  • Provides opportunities for academic support and challenge.
  • Takes responsibility for teaching the district curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
  • Keeps abreast of current development in their fields and continues to deepen their understanding of their disciplines.

  • Classroom management requires daily attendance to meet students’ needs.
  • Requires travel to work sites within a building
  • Interprets test results; reviews and interprets printed reports to obtain information necessary for decision-making, planning and management in assigned area(s).
  • Operates specialized equipment such as computers, copiers, VCR’s etc.
  • Provides written procedures for plan preparation and implementation; communicates student assignments and behavior problems with others in writing.
  • Provides instruction to students; discusses education programs with teachers, administrators, and/or citizens; conducts individual or group meetings; works with students to reinforce learning assignments; assists with the supervision of students; discusses student assignments and behavior problems with others.
  • Reviews published educational materials for selection purposes; observes and evaluates student performance; checks student’s work, corrects papers, supervises testing; assesses the accomplishments of students and provides progress reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

 

                Vocational Preparation: (Experience)

 

  • Successful student teaching experience and/or prior teaching experience in the area Music, particularly at the secondary level
  • Experience in the area of music
  • Ability to play at least one standard orchestral instrument

 

                Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution
  • Missouri Teaching Certificate-Instrumental Music K-12
