POSITION:  Principal – School for Early Childhood Education 

 

The Ritenour School District seeks an experienced administrator with a vision and mission focused on student achievement, social-emotional learning, career and college readiness, and teacher development and leadership, to collaboratively lead through innovative and student-centered initiatives.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Appropriate Missouri Teaching and Administrator Certification, minimum five years of teaching experience. Three years of building level administrative leadership experience required. Applicant must have a master’s degree in educational administration. The ideal candidate must be a strong academic leader with successful experience with school turnaround who can clearly see both possibilities and obstacles, and develop a plan of action to move academic achievement forward. The applicant must demonstrate success working with a diverse student population and expertise in the area of instructional leadership. The applicant must possess collaborative leadership skills, strong communications skills, be an effective problem solver and advocate for a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

 

JOB TITLE:                  Principal – School for Early Childhood Education

 

Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and implements the operations and programs of the school under the direction of the assistant superintendent.

 

REPORTS TO:                  Assistant Superintendent                                                

 

EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:

 

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Supervises, observes and evaluates the performance of all building staff and makes recommendations for employment.
  • Plans, supervises and evaluates the instructional program.
  • Keeps the superintendent informed of the school’s activities and problems.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and address concerns according to due process rights of students.
  • Make recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction.
  • Develops a building budget and directs and monitors the budget/business/financial matters of the school.
  • Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by tuition, grants, and student activities.
  • Provides for adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability for that property.
  • Develops and administers school operational policies and procedures. Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant. Supervises maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Screens, interviews, and recommends the employment, assignments, or termination of personnel to the director of personnel.
  • Collects, maintains, and reports data regarding students as required.
  • Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.
  • Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  • Administers safety, security and emergency policies and procedures.
  • Helps plan, implement, and monitor staff development and growth activities.
  • Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.
  • Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians concerning student educational programs.
  • Supervises and evaluates the school’s extracurricular program.
  • Pursues professional growth and development through staff development opportunities, post graduate education, membership and participation in professional organizations and attendance at regional, state and national meetings.
  • Delegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Provides regular updates on the growth of the academic program, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Regular attendance is required to provide support to the students and staff.
  • Requires travel to work sites within a building.
  • Meets with students and parents outside the instructional day.
  • Reviews and interprets printed reports to obtain information necessary for decision making, planning and management in assigned area (s).
  • Prepares and maintains written reports.
  • Provides written procedures for plan preparation and implementation.
  • Communicates student assignments and behavior problems in writing with others.
  • Develops information for written reports and correspondence to officials inside and outside the district.
  • Communicates with classroom teachers regarding building programs.
  • Conducts individual or group meetings.
  • Provides oversight and evaluative supervision of assigned staff.
  • Communicates with employees, parents, suppliers, etc. via telephone.
  • Observes and evaluates employee performance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
